#ImOutHere: Talk Wordy to Me

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by April Wood over at A Well Read Woman. April also posted a review of Indiscretion, which you can check out here.

I’m always appreciative of the opportunity to be interviewed, profiled, or have a book reviewed. I enjoyed her questions and the end result was great. She calls the interviews “Talk Wordy to Me Wednesdays”…I love the play on words. Thanks again, April!

What’s good, Ma?

Thanks to Tiffany over at Her Scribbled Thoughts for suggesting I do a one month update.

So, it’s been a little over 30 days since the publication of Indiscretion and it’s been an interesting ride. The reviews across Goodreads, BN.com, and Amazon have been very good, averaging a little over 4 stars. I received one less than favorable review, so I’ve had to deal with and overcome that blow. I’ll be honest, as a newly published author, it stung, but I get that not everyone is going to like your style, your subject matter, or just flat out not like the book. Other than mostly wonderful reviews, I’ve done a few interviews (which have been a virtual blast to do), I initially went ham on going to Smashwords, Amazon, and Goodreads for updates but have since controlled my compulsion with checking for review and sales updates from a many times per day basis to a few days a week, and I’ve caught the Indie Author itch and have been working on publishing my next project, a short story.

The last four weeks haven’t been all about me or all about my book, though. I’ve managed to show some love to my fellow Indies out there by posting several cover reveals and hosting a few blog tours, participating in a giveaway, and having the honor to beta read a few ah-maze-ing stories. Let me tell you my Indie girls can WRITE. A. BOOK. Dot com period. Of course, I can’t give away much, but when they’re ready for a cover reveal or a blog tour, I’ll be happy to sing their praises and support them however I can.

What have been my lessons learned?

  1. Don’t forget to market yourself and your book. Example: Indiscretion is on sale at Amazon, BN.com, iTunes, and Smashwords.
  2. Don’t let a less than good review keep you down…As the old saying goes, one monkey (or a few) don’t stop no show!
  3. Spread the love.  Support your fellow writers. We’re all in this together.
  4. Don’t forget that you are a WRITER. Gotta keep clicking them keys.
  5. Enjoy the ride. It’s okay to call on your inner Tamar and say, “#SheDidThat”
